This award acknowledges the achievements and contributions of those who help keep the WSU community safe, healthy, and secure.<\/p>\n<p>The award winners will be recognized by President Cantwell during the week long virtual fair event.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom: 0\" href=\"http:\/\/universityevents.wsu.edu\/safetyfair\/nominations\/nomination-form\/\"><button>Nominate a Coug<\/button><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Nomination Guidelines<\/h2>\n<p>Nominations can be made in any of three categories: Safety, Health, or Security.<\/p>\n<p>Self-nominations will be considered. Additional supporting documentation may be provided, and may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Signed letters of support. These may come from internal supporters (e.g., students, coworkers, supervisors) or external supporters as they relate to the work of the nominee at WSU.<\/li>\n<li>A list of co-workers who may be contacted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nominations must be submitted through the <a href=\"http:\/\/universityevents.wsu.edu\/safetyfair\/nominations\/nomination-form\/\">nomination form<\/a> on this website by <b>5 p.m. on Fri. Sept. 5th, 2025.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Selection Criteria<\/h2>\n<p>The President&#8217;s Award for Safety, Health, and Security is designed to recognize individuals in the Washington State University community for their exceptional contributions to safety, health, and security at WSU.<\/p>\n<p>Criteria for selection include evidence of achievement in one or more of the following categories:<\/p>\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-1\" class=\"tablepress tablepress-id-1\">\n<thead>\n<tr class=\"row-1 odd\">\n\t<th class=\"column-1\">Safety<\/th><th class=\"column-2\">Health<\/th><th class=\"column-3\">Security <\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody class=\"row-hover\">\n<tr class=\"row-2 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Identified, evaluated &amp; controlled hazards<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Demonstrated excellence in prioritizing and promoting the health and well-being of their faculty\/staff\/students\/visitors.<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">Developed security conscious policies &amp; procedures<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-3 odd\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Reduced accidents\/incidents within the workplace, classroom or community <br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Helped others through stressful situations, acts as a team player and encourages work in others, treats others with respect and helps care for others well-being<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">Collaboratively &amp; proactively worked towards improving security or life safety<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-4 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Demonstrated safety leadership <\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Modeled or mentored health and well-being for others.<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">Innovation &amp; enthusiasm in promoting safety, health, and security<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-5 odd\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Developed processes or programs that are successfully imitated by other departments\/colleges promoting a safer and healthier community.<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Worked\/helped to promote the well-being and mental health of faculty\/staff\/students<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">Demonstrated leadership and active promotion in security or life safety at WSU<br \/>\nEnsuring effective integration of security or life safety in planning processes<br \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-6 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Acted as an interagency student\/employee providing a significant contribution to health and safety resulting in the prevention of injuries, accidents, or illnesses.<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Created a campus culture and climate that fosters mental health, physical health and well-being.  Actively went above and beyond to create a healthy WSU Community that offers every student the opportunity to thrive and succeed.<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">Praised safety efforts, readily recognized people for safety work, found ways to celebrate safety, health and security accomplishments. (Must be done outside of normal job duties\/description)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-7 odd\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Demonstrated commitment to health and safety in the workplace, classroom or community. Commitment goes beyond the requirements of the employee(s) role, it is proactive and preventative.<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Praised safety efforts, readily recognized people for safety work, found ways to celebrate safety, health and security accomplishments. (Must be done outside of normal job duties\/description)<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">Other efforts not described above<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-8 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Worked towards continuous improvement of health and safety. For example, activities\/actions taken to prevent injuries or illnesses, prevention of unsafe conditions or practices.<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Promoted a work and service environment that is respectful, collegial and supportive<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/td><td class=\"column-3\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-9 odd\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Praised safety efforts, readily recognized people for safety work, found ways to celebrate safety, health and security accomplishments. (Must be done outside of normal job duties\/description)<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Recognizes there is no health without mental health and helps to take care of the wellbeing and mental health of those around them. <\/td><td class=\"column-3\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-10 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Other efforts not described above<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Other efforts not described above<\/td><td class=\"column-3\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Selection Committee<\/h2>\n<p>The selection committee is comprised of a diverse group of students and members of the University&#8217;s Department of Environmental Health and Safety, Office of Research Assurances and the Marketing and Communications Department.<\/p>\n<p>The awards selection committee evaluates and ranks the nominees.
